Vintage Submariner Rolex 5513

Vintage Watch Condition Examination:

This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with normal signs of wear. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert is in great condition with some wear. The pip at 12 is a later replacement. The inside caseback is stamped “5512” which is not uncommon to find in 5513s. We often times see 5512 or 5513s with the mismatched caseback because Rolex would use whatever that had available at the time. The dial is in overall great condition with a very fine patina throughout and some light marks. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to an attractive creamy beige color; the 12 o’clock plot shows signs of degradation at the bottom. The hands have developed patina and the lume matches the color of the lume on the dial. The bracelet is in good condition with some wear with a bit of stretch between the links.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (1984) model made from around 1962 to 1989 and here is a later example from 1984. The defining characteristics of these last generation 5513’s would be the white gold borders around the hour markers, this is known as “white gold surrounds.” This is a characteristic that started in the mid-late 1980s and is still featured on Submariners of this day. The lume on this example has aged to an attractive beige-creamy color giving this watch that classic vintage athestic. In addition to being lovely, this come directly from the family of the original owner and has retained it’s box and papers which is always a bonus!
