Vintage Watch Condition Examination:

This Rolex chronograph is in great, honest vintage condition. The case is in great condition with normal signs of wear; it appears to be unpolished. The smooth bezel shows some wear and has remained sharp. The white dial has developed patina throughout giving it a lovely creamy vintage athestic. The lume on the dial has developed patina and darkened which is not uncommon; some plots shows signs of degradation. The lume in the hands has developed patina and some material missing; the lume has aged to a lovely beige color. The C&I rivet Oyster bracelet is in great condition with normal signs of wear and some stretch between the links; it appears to have been rebuilt at some point with closed rivets.

Description: Rolex Oyster Chronograph Reference 6034

Rolex came out with the reference 6034 in circa 1950 and it was in production until around 1961. The 6034 came out before the reference 6234 “Pre-Daytona” which came directly before the 6238, and the 6239 being next which was the first Daytona. You can see how Rolex continued to use the same design language through to the Daytona. In typical Rolex fashion, the company offered multiple variations of the reference 6034 in stainless steel, 14k gold and 18k gold. This example features “BROCK & CO.” written on the dial.

Brock & Company was a high-end jewelry store and is sometimes referred to as the “Tiffany of the West,” according to some research it was also referred to as the most important jewelry and giftware store in Los Angeles. The store was founded by George Brock in circa 1903. They sold watches and some were stamped with the retailers name, like the watch we have here. When looking at this watch closely we can see the movement is stamped with “ROW” which is the Rolex US import code and makes sense since this watch was sold by a US retailer. It’s nice when these little details line up. Retailer signed Rolex’s are not very common and ones with “Brock & Co.” are seldom seen. We have seen the interest in retailer signed watches increase over the last few years and this is a good opportunity to get an uncommon watch with an rare retailer signature.
