Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 168000 (1987) – aka “Triple Zero” – is considered a transitional model because it was the first reference in the series to feature 904L-grade stainless steel, an upgrade from the industry standard 316L stainless steel. Rolex only produced ref 168000 for a couple of years before it was discontinued and replaced by the wildly successful ref 16610, which would remain in production for several decades. The Triple Zero Sub is similar to its successor, even featuring a similar glossy dial decorated with white gold applied hour markers. It also sports other standard “modern” design elements, such as a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, water resistance up to 300 meters, and a COSC-rated caliber 3035 Perpetual movement.
