Rolex Submariner 16800 Black Bezel

Vintage Watch Condition Examination:

This 16800 is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in strong with normal signs of wear. The bezel insert is in great condition with light wear. The matte black dial is in excellent condition with light patina. The hands and hour markers have developed into an attractive pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina; the minute hand shows signs of a previous  lume repair in the center and the hour hand shows some wear. The bracelet is in good condition with normal signs of wear and some stretch between the links.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 16800 (1982) is referred to as a transitional model. Rolex went from acrylic to sapphire crystal, an updated movement with quick-set date, and at the beginning of the run the watches featured matte dials like the previous 1680. Later in the production Rolex changed the dials to glossy with white gold surrounds. These are known as transitional models due to the blend of older and new features Rolex decided to use together. These early 16800s with matte dials are the perfect mix of vintage styling with modern touches like the sapphire glass and quick-set date.
