Description: Rolex Datejust 1630
Pre-owned Rolex Datejust ref 1630 (1975) resembles an OysterQuartz model. It even features the OysterQuartz’s distinctive integrated bracelet and angular case but with an automatic movement instead of quartz. This curious watch is quite rare and was produced just a few years before the OysterQuartz officially came to market.
As the story goes, the case and bracelet for the then-new OysterQuartz model were ready for production before Rolex had finished developing the Quartz movement. The company proceeded with production anyway, outfitting the case with a Perpetual mechanical movement until the quartz movement was completed. The watch remained in production for only a few years, during which Rolex released a stainless steel “Date” ref. 1530 and a two-tone “Datejust” ref. 1630 model. These watches were the first Rolexes to sport a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The Datejust was outfitted with a 5-link integrated Jubilee bracelet and yellow gold fluted bezel, just like the traditional two-tone Datejust. It also features a flange surrounding the dial with minute and half-minute hash marks.
