Men’s Rolex Submariner 16800 Stainless Steel

Pre-Owned Watch Condition Examination:

This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with normal wear. The matte black dial is in good condition with light patina. The bezel insert is in great condition and is a later replacement. The lume on the dial have developed patina and aged to an eggshell white color. The hands have developed light patina and the lume in the hands has aged matching the lume on the dial; the lume in the seconds hand has been redone and is darker than the other hands. The bracelet is in great condition with light wear.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 16800 (Circa 1984) is the best of both worlds when it comes to a dive watch with a vintage aesthetic but also all the usual modern amenities, such as a high-beat Perpetual movement with a Quickset date, scratch-resistant sapphire, a uni-directional time-lapse bezel, and Tritium lume in glitzier white gold surrounds. At the same time, ref. 16800 also sports an older-style case and bracelet. Rolex produced reference 16800 for a few years between the late 1970s and the 1980s, during which the model was equipped with a matte dial with painted indices, followed by the glossy dial example you see here. It holds a special place in Rolex history as a transitional model that bridges the gap between vintage 4-digit Rolexes and the modern aesthetics we’ve come to know and love today.
